Description

Melanotan 1 (afamelanotide) is a synthetic linear peptide composed of 13 amino acids, designed as an analog of the naturally occurring alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). It has the molecular formula C78H111N21O19, a molecular weight of 1646.85 g/mol, and a CAS number of 75921-69-6. First synthesized in the 1980s, Melanotan 1 was engineered by modifying the native alpha-MSH sequence to increase chemical stability and resistance to enzymatic degradation. It is classified as a melanocortin receptor agonist with high selectivity for the MC1R receptor subtype. Supplied as a white to off-white lyophilized powder, it dissolves readily in water.
